The landscape as a filter
Eutrophication of surface waters due to phosphate leaching is one of the main environmental challenges in intensively cropped farmland areas, such as many areas in Europe, US and Asia.
We are working with principles and technologies to prevent phosphate leaching from arable land. The "landscape filters" may be natural or constructed wetlands. Phosphate may be retained by natural sorbents or constructed filters (e.g. made of waste products).
Laboratory, field, monitoring and modelling work may be part of the project.
The project offers opportunities to work in a project group.
